Introduction

  

In collaboration with the Institute of Diagnostics and Vaccine Development (NIDVD) in infectious diseases of Xiamen University, China, Innovax has established a core- platform using DNA recombinant technology to express protein in E. coli for vaccine production.

The platform provides a low-cost, large quantity and safe recombinant protein expression system; in association with this platform, we have established series of comprehensive system such as protein purification, in vitro regeneration of virus-like-particle and in-process quality control procedures.

   

At present, a hepatitis E vaccine, a cervical cancer vaccine and a genital warts vaccine have been developed base on this platform.  With its apparent attractiveness, we are convinced this platform has not reached its promised potential.

 E.coli is the first expression system used in genetic engineering. Aside from thorough understanding of its genetic background and physiological characteristics, its breeding ability and high protein expression lever result in substantial cost saving for the use of E.coli as expression hosts in comparison with yeast or baculovirus. Moreover, the downstream process of E.coli system is simple and easy-controlling. Base on the outstanding advantage on safety and the cost, E.coli expression system has been used in production of a variety of drugs. There hasn’t  any E.coli expressed vaccine been approved for marketing at home and abroadbecause the lacking of proper reassembling protocol for particle formation.  This shortcoming has only been averted with the advancement of science and proprietary technology. 

 

Virus-like particle

Virus-like particle (VLP) isclosely resemble the nature virions in terms of form, structure, icosahedral symmetry, and comformation epitopes . Being particulate,VLP can provide strong immunogenicity,and in resemble native virion, VLP can easily target the  immune system for induction of neutralizing antibodies against virus infection. VLP-based recombinant vaccines has became the leading method in vaccine developing.
